What Are Stretch Marks and Why Do They Form

Stretch marks (striae) are visible lines on the skin caused by the tearing of collagen and elastin fibres in the deeper layer of skin — the dermis. They do not pose a health risk, but aesthetically they can be very bothersome.

How stretch marks develop: Initially, they are pink to reddish-purple (fresh stretch marks). Over time, they fade and turn into white or pearlescent indentations — and it is precisely at this stage that aesthetic camouflage is most effective.

• 1. Pregnancy
