Why Is Healing After Permanent Eyebrow Makeup So Important?
Complete skin regeneration after eyebrow micropigmentation takes 30 days. During this time, the pigment settles into the upper layers of the skin and the colour gradually stabilises to its final shade.
If you were to disrupt the healing process — by unnecessarily wetting your eyebrows, scratching, or pulling off scabs — this could lead to:
- Pigment being pulled out, resulting in uneven colour
- Small scars and skin damage
- The need for additional touch-ups
That is why we recommend a touch-up no earlier than 1 month after the procedure. Without a touch-up, permanent eyebrow makeup cannot be considered fully complete. During the touch-up, we assess how the eyebrows have healed and add pigment where needed.
Permanent Eyebrow Makeup Healing Day by Day
What exactly should you expect after an eyebrow micropigmentation procedure? Here is a complete healing guide — applicable to both Powder Brows and Nano Brows (microblading).
Day 1–2: Darker colour and mild swelling
Immediately after the procedure, the eyebrow colour appears significantly darker than the final result will be. This is completely normal — the pigment is freshly applied and the skin is slightly reddened. Mild swelling may occur and will subside within 24–48 hours.
What to do: On the day of the procedure, gently wipe the micropigmentation area with a cotton pad soaked in Corsodyl solution.
Day 3–5: Scab formation and itching
Thin scabs begin to form on the eyebrows — this is a natural part of healing. The eyebrows may itch. Never scratch, pull, or rub the scabs. Premature removal of scabs can pull out pigment and cause uneven colour.
What to do: If itching occurs, use the product recommended by your specialist. Do not touch the eyebrows with your hands.
Day 5–7: Scabs peeling off
The scabs naturally peel away. Beneath them, a lighter colour appears — this does not mean the pigment has disappeared. The colour will gradually intensify and stabilise over the following weeks.
What to do: Let the scabs fall off on their own. Do not apply decorative cosmetics to the eyebrows.
Day 7–14: Regeneration and colour stabilisation
The skin is actively regenerating. The colour may appear uneven — some areas darker, others lighter. This is normal and will even out over the coming days.
What to do: Continue protecting your eyebrows from the sun (SPF 30). Still avoid cosmetics on the eyebrow area.
Day 14–30: Complete regeneration
The skin is nearly healed and the colour stabilises at its final shade. The eyebrows look natural and soft — exactly how they will look long-term.
What to do: Protect your eyebrows with SPF cream when exposed to the sun. You can return to your regular cosmetic routine.
After 30 days: Touch-up
Book your touch-up appointment (1–3 months after the first procedure). The specialist will evaluate the result and make final adjustments — adding pigment where it has taken less, fine-tuning the shape and saturation. Only after the touch-up is permanent eyebrow makeup fully complete.
How to Care for Your Eyebrows After Permanent Makeup
Proper aftercare is the key to a perfect result. Follow these guidelines:
- On the day of the procedure — wipe your eyebrows with a cotton pad soaked in Corsodyl solution.
- Until the scabs fall off — avoid swimming pools, saunas, and steam baths. Do not wet the treated area.
- When washing your hair — wash your hair tilted backwards to prevent water from coming into contact with your eyebrows. If your eyebrows get wet, gently blot the moisture with a cotton pad — never rub with a towel.
- Do not touch your eyebrows — also be mindful of sleeping positions where your eyebrows may press against the pillow.
- No cosmetics — do not apply creams, makeup, or care serums to the eyebrow area until healed.
- Sun protection — avoid direct sunlight and sunbeds for 3 weeks. After that, use SPF 30 cream — the more diligently you protect your eyebrows, the longer the colour will remain vibrant.
Plan your procedure for a time when you have no important events — we do not recommend using decorative cosmetics on the eyebrows for up to 10 days after the procedure.
How to Prepare for Permanent Eyebrow Makeup
In addition to aftercare, proper preparation is essential to ensure a smooth procedure and optimal pigment retention:
- 1 month before — do not wax, trim, or shave your eyebrows. Stop plucking a few days beforehand. The specialist needs to see the natural direction of hair growth.
- 2 weeks before — avoid sunbeds and tanning. Suddenly darker skin could affect the selection of pigment shade.
- 10 days before — discontinue blood-thinning medications (aspirin, etc.) and vasoconstrictor preparations.
- 2 weeks before and after — do not take antibiotics.
- 24 hours before — avoid alcohol, coffee, energy drinks, and heavy, spicy foods. Do not use care cosmetics or growth serums on the eyebrows.
- 2 hours before — do not smoke.
If you have a specific idea of the eyebrow shape you want, come to the procedure wearing your everyday makeup — the specialist will see how you typically wear your eyebrows.
How Long Does Permanent Eyebrow Makeup Last?
The result of permanent eyebrow makeup lasts 1.5 to 2.5 years, depending on individual factors:
- Skin type — oily skin absorbs pigment faster
- Lifestyle — intense exercise, sauna visits, and frequent tanning shorten longevity
- Aftercare — proper post-procedure care and SPF protection prolongs colour vibrancy
- Age — in older clients, tissues regenerate more slowly, so the pigment lasts longer
The pigment gradually fades naturally without changing colour to undesirable shades. Once you notice the saturation decreasing, it is time to book a refresh.
